17 Jan 12 Microsoft and LG Patent Agreement Concerns LG Products Running on Android …

Microsoft has inked a new patent agreement with the South Korea based consumer electronic goods maker LG Electronics to cover all LG products including smartphones, tablets or any other gadgets running on Google’s Android or Chrome platforms.

The content of the agreement, however, has yet to be detailed by either company.

“We are pleased to have built upon our longstanding relationship with LG to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel, Intellectual Property Group at Microsoft stated, AgIP News reports.

“This agreement with LG means that more than 70 percent of all Android smartphones sold in the US are now receiving coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio,” he added.

Gutierrez further stated that he and his company are proud to have continued support in resolving intellectual property related disputes involving Google’s Android and Chrome OS platforms.

The deal between Microsoft and LG is actually based on a pre-existing agreement; which once again proves how important the role of intellectual property really is when it comes to facilitating an efficient and successful IT ecosystem.
