29 Dec 12 Meet Google’s Top Android Apps of 2012

Google has released a list of its top Android apps of 2012, which have been hand-picked by Googlers as being among the top apps on the Google Play app store.

The apps on the list were selected because of their design and usability on both smartphones and tablets. Google has made big bets on tablets, releasing its own 7-inch and 10-inch Nexus tablets to compete with the incumbent iPad.

These are the best Android apps of 2012, as selected by Google Play’s editors, in no particular order:

Evernote: A note-taking app that synchronizes across multiple devices.

Zappos: An online retailer that sells clothing an apparel.

Pinterest: An online scrapbook in which users “pin” links and images to pages.

Grimm’s Snow White: A storybook-style app that introduces Grimm’s fairy tales.

Pocket: An app that saves articles, videos and other pieces of content to read and view later without an Internet connection.

Expedia: A trip-planning app that includes a “rich detailed tablet experience.”

Ancestry: A genealogy app for keeping track of a family tree.

Fancy: Think Pinterest, but geared toward shopping. It serves as a wishlist/store of sorts.

Mint: An app for keeping track of your finances.

Seriesguide Show Manager: A second-screen app for watching television that includes more information about shows and schedules.

Pixlr Express: A photo-editing app that includes quick-fixes like red-eye reduction and cropping.

TED: A collection of talks from some of the world’s thought leaders in just about every subject.
