Classic cars from eight states took over downtown North Platte on Saturday.

Enthusiasts parked their prized vehicles along the bricks for the Colonel Cody Cruise Show and Shine, with classic cars from all over the country on display.

“We like the hospitality of the Nebraska shows,” said Roy Reher, of Arvada, Colo.

Reher and his wife Carol drove their red, five-window checkered Chevy Coupe from Colorado to North Platte for the show and have for many years. “We just started going to the Gering show, too,” he said.

With him was Donna Benallo, also of Arvada, the owner of an orange 1932 five-window Ford Coupe, who said she’s driven her vehicle all over the country.

“We’ve been everywhere from New York to Pleasanton, Calif.,” she said.

Allen Janas said cars from eight states were registered in the contest, including Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Texas and Missouri.

Jeff Anderson, of Gothenburg, was the winner of the drawing for the 1972 Dodge Challenger given away by North Platte Community College. The Plum Crazy-colored Challenger was built by the transportation department at the college and raffled away. This is the seventh car the college has raffled off to benefit NPCC. Funds collected from the raffle go to help students get scholarships through the college.

“The best part to me is the pride the kids take in the car,” said Brian Herrick, an automotive technology instructor at NPCC.

Don Wilson, automotive body instructors, said next year’s vehicle will be a 1963 Chevy Nova.
