“60 Minutes,” America’s #1 news program, is the first primetime news magazine show to have its own standalone web application, launching today in the Chrome Web store. The new “60 Minutes” Chrome app delivers high-quality video of “60 Minutes” program content and debuts with last Sunday’s interview of Steve Jobs’s biographer, Walter Isaacson. The app will feature previous segments, clips, and new original content from the “60 Minutes” online series 60MinutesOvertime.com.

New users of the app will experience the interview with Isaacson, who talks about the private and business life of one of the world’s greatest innovators. Jobs gave Isaacson full access to his closest friends and family and opened up to the author in more than 40 interviews, some of which were tape-recorded. Last Sunday’s “60 Minutes” also includes a story that focuses on children whose autism prevents normal speech and the breakthroughs they have made with the help of tablet computers and special applications that allow them to communicate.
These two stories powered the “60 Minutes” and “60 Minutes Overtime” sites to their biggest day this season for unique users, page views and streams. It was also the largest streaming day for “60 Minutes Overtime” since its launch a year ago.
Users of the Chrome app will be able to browse segments by categories such as Newsmakers, Politics, Science, Business, Sports, Entertainment and Nature, as well as by correspondent.
Using the latest technologies, including HTML5, CSS3 and animations, Fantasy Interactive and CBS worked together to create an elegant and interactive online news and entertainment experience for users.
