Spartanburg County deputies are looking for the gunman that shot one of their own, according to Sheriff Chuck Wright.
Sheriff Wright said Deputy Brad James was shot twice and rushed to the hospital.
We’re told the shooting occurred after James pulled over a vehicle for a minor traffic violation on Carolina Drive, near the intersection of Kimberly Drive, around 10 p.m. Sunday. That’s near the Spartanburg Downtown Airport.
Sheriff Chuck Wright tells us the suspect fled his vehicle, then fired multiple shots at Deputy James, hitting him in the right eye and right hip.
We’re told James returned fire, and the suspect may be injured.
Deputies believe the suspect carjacked a 2002 burgundy Cadillac Deville with chrome-silver rims from a nearby location. The Deville has South Carolina license plate GZI-700.
Deputies, K-9 teams, and helicopter crews are actively searching for this vehicle in the area. They advise residents in the area to be cautious, as this suspect is armed and dangerous.
The suspect is described as a black male, mid 30′s, about 5’8″, with short dreadlocks. He was last seen wearing an oversized white T-shirt and dark pants.
The sheriff said Deputy James is expected to recover.
The carjacking victim was not injured.
