02 Dec 11 New Google Chrome extension could boost Google+ use

A new extension in Google Chrome could help Google+ boost its usage rates. The feature allows users to activate an optional extension that shows them which of their followers are currently active on the website and invite them to Hangouts.

The extension also saves previous Hangouts, like chat logs, so users can remember some of their favorite interactions with their followers.

In general, Google has spent the last few months trying to make its social network easier to use and update – like Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook have done with various third-party applications and functions.

Last month, Google announced the social network was available with a series of third-party management applications, Brafton reported. Moreover, the company finally released its social media marketing capability with Google+ Pages.

As Google+ becomes more seamlessly integrated with Google Chrome, the network will likely see more use. Additionally, Brafton reported on Thursday that Chrome is becoming more popular. In fact, based on current usage and adoption trends, it is expected to surpass Mozilla Firefox as the second most popular browser at some point next year.
